My mom called me today and told me her fiance had something for me. Apparently, fiances' grandpa used to be part of 'some archery club' . A guy he shot with gave him a bow. The bow laid around the house for years. No one after grandpa ever hunted or shot any archery so it sat as a decor piece. Fiance thought I might want it since it was 'hunting related'.

Further digging into the story and my mom tells me the guy was...and i quote... "I guess some kind of famous archer. Bear somebody?"

I go to pick it up tonight to find a 1956 Bear Kodiak in excellent shape. It has a little grip wear and the string is toast. Otherwise its in good shape. Needs a cleaning and a new string and I'll be stalking whitetails with it here at home!

That would be amazing. I saw Fred Bear about 1980 in Denver at CBA as their guest speaker. He was an amazing person and Bowhunter. Great speaker also.

Update:

The family doesn't seem to realize what a big deal this is and i'm a hard gathering info. BUT i found out today that the "Bear something" guy gave him this bow because grandpa has been making "tips" for "Bear something's" arrows. I desperately want to scavenge this guys garage!!!!

I remember "way back when", my Dad took me to an outdoor show in Los Angeles, guess I was about 10 or so back in the 50's. We saw a presentation by Fred Bear about bow hunting in Alaska. My Dad was so impressed he bought a Bear bow on the spot...looked a lot like what you have. I shot several deer with it and I really don't have a clue what happened to it.

I also remember an early outdoor hunting show on tv (could have been American Sportsman) where Bear was polar bear hunting. He wrapped up in a seal skin and laid on the snow/ice so he would look like a seal, which polar bears feed on. One stalked him and was going to catch the "seal" for a meal. Bear shot him, while his guide was backup with a rifle. Pretty exciting.

Great find.......

UPDATE
I have the name of Grandpa. Last name is Mathews (no relation to the bow) but, he worked for a company called Crescent Manufacturing and helped FB design and machine broadheads in the 50's
