Hunters,
Just found out that I drew Nevadas late season tag in unit 101 -109 after 9 years. Need some encouragement or info about the area. Don't have extra cash laying around for a guide. Do you recommend to go guided or Go DIY. Any info will be appreciated

Big unit with lots of potential, also lots of hunters. Do your homework and you don't need a guide. Did the tag cost you 9 bonus points?

Thanks to all for reading my post. I decided to go guided, all was based on other tags I drew this year. Utah panguitch area. And California late season x-10 in the eastern sierras. It will definitely be an interesting deer season. I'll keep posting. Thanks

I also have that same tag. We have hunted the Ruby's since the early 80's. It's a really big area and a guide gets you into those areas
blocked by private property. So much of the area is behind private land.
If you're not using a guide you still have most of the range to hunt you just have to be willing to work really hard with your legs to get
up high. I've seen some monsters up there.

I also drew that tag along with 2 friends that thankfully know the area well. Ive been hiking the mountains around vegas in the heat to get ready and cant wait for November. Good luck and hopefully we can all share pics. I also got the cow elk depredation tag for the same hunt. Gonna be a lot of work but Im sure well worth it.

Very cool. Your gonna be busy for sure. Post pics of your hunts. And good luck!
This was the buck I got out of the ruby mountains with Henry Krenka. Awesome experience. We took a horse ride out of camp for an hour on the second day. Parked horses and started walking uphill. About 9:00 am I spotted a wide dark horned buck at 326 yards? He also had spotted us. He was getting nervous and was getting ready to check out. I didn't have any time to control my breathing. So I shot straight above his back. Buck was gone!!! S?!( So we continue our journey up the mountain on foot. About 3:00 we got to the very top of mountain. Sitting and glassing for about 30 minute my guide Mike McCarty spotted this buck at 327 yards straight down the other side of the mountain. After scoping him out for about 15 minutes . I decided to harvest this buck. One shot took him down. For the next day and half we spent a lot of time in camp due to the storm that brought 10" of snow. One other hunter harvested a nice 4x4. And one other hunter had tag soup. If anyone decided to go guided in this area . I would highly recommend hidden valley outfitters. Enjoy and be save.
