We just got back from my son's antelope hunt and it was a great trip. We checked a lot of country that was devoid of antelope where we had seen them in the past. Once we found where they were hanging out and looked over probably 20-25 different bucks along a valley about 15 miles long. My son was holding out for a bigger buck that the one he got 7 years ago which was a pretty nice.
We found an alfalfa field that was huge with several bucks around and tried to stalk a coupe as they moved off the field but they were so skittish it was unbelievable. The next day I suggested that we sit in the middle of the field next to the pivot pump which was 529 yards from the nearest fence and just wait and see what came out. We got there early in the afternoon so things would settle down and any antelope would forget about us.
About an hour and a half later my son nudges me and a buck and two does had appeared out of nowhere. The buck was a very nice one but over 500 yards away. They wandered around for a while and the buck was with the does til they went to another field and he lost interest. He then started walking towards us and my brother was calling out the range starting from 485 to 350 to 300 then the buck turned broadside and stopped and I hear "range is two forty-fo...BOOM.
This is the second antelope we have taken from an alfala field and let me tell you they are delicious.http://forum.eastmans.com/images/styles/eastmans/attach/jpg.gifhttp://forum.eastmans.com/images/styles/eastmans/attach/jpg.gif
