My 11 yr old nephew drew a NM Unit 30 mule deer tag but his dad got deployed and will be gone for the next 6 months. This is his first big game permit. I would happily drive down and take him but I drew a NM Unit 2B permit, opposite side of the state. His grandfather said he would take him but he lives in Nebraska so scouting is not possible. Could any of you guys point them in the right direction? Not looking for honey holes, unless you willing to give em up. General areas in the unit to focus on would help. You can PM me. I posted a thread on the NM forum without any success, so I thought I might give the Mule Deer forum a try. Thanks.

If I could help, I would, but I know zip about that area in NM. I'd give G.T. Nunn a call. http://www.frontieroutfitting.com/index.asp

He maybe able to give you a few drainages to take a look at. He visited with me when my son drew a youth MD hunt and offered some info to me a few years ago. No idea if he will help or not now, but he's a good guy.

Get ahold of the local Mule Deer foundation Chapter. They should jump on the chance to take a kid hunting, and help a service mans family member, and get good press for the foundation at the same time. I'm in Idaho and never been to NM, but if it were in my backyard, it would be an honor to help the young man. They may even film the hunt and send it to his Dad. That is what needs to happen.
