the original footage is in full 1080p. The video quality in the J1 is OUTSTANDING. I rendered the clip above in 480p for uploading size reasons for youtube. The original video out of the camera was MUCH sharper.

Ah, I see. I'm sure you wouldn't have the J1 if it wasn't good! Nothing like great quality optics and cams! Had a quick ? for you......... Is 1080p outdated now? Just wondering because on my new canon 110 is says I have 1920p, I didn't even know they had more than 1080?

1080p is still the industry standard for home viewing. The 1920p setting would likely be downsampled for viewing in most cases.

It can be a challenge digiscoping with an SLR. Mirrorless and compacts are better because you can autofocus, and they are easier to adapt to the spotter.

You should look at the Tines Up kit, or make your own with an inexpensive compact camera with a MAX zoom of 5x or less, an adapter for filter threads like a Zeikos universal adapter, and a Tines Up Video Scopecam adapter.

Actually,

I tested the Meopix iphone adapter with great success. It was really pretty easy, once I downloaded an app with a timer. Phoneskope also make pretty slick looking adapters people have had luck with. Kowa makes a higher end version.

I still the think the compact camera/ tines up system gives a little bit better results.
