I'm new to the site and I'm from Ohio, my wife and I along with another couple plan to hunt mule deer in Wyoming this coming fall. We currently are planning to stay in the area of Alcova, Wyoming and hope to draw a tag in region D, planning to focus on hunt area 70 for mule deer. There will be four of us applying with zero points, are we wasting our time? Is there a different region we should consider? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Rifle or Bow? But yes you are. You would probably need at least one point for 70. There are a ton of resources out there for draw odds. Most you will have to pay for. A quick google search of OTC Mule deer would bring up some spots in other states but be ready for a crowd.

You'll need to look into the eastern 1/4 of the state, or areas 121-124. I would recommend a scouting trip and be ready for some glassing and some days where you may not see deer.

D was 100% in the special draw last year for 1st choice applicants, and around 28% in the regular draw. For Wyoming, all the draw odds you need are free on the G&F website. https://wgfd.wyo.gov/Hunting/Drawing-Odds/2018-Drawing-Odds

That said, I've never hunted 70 but have a couple of the Region D units further south. From what I saw I personally would not pay the special tag price. I did see a couple nice bucks (140-ish probably) last year while elk hunting though.

If you do go special draw, look at the LE areas around there. Much less pressure over on the LE side than the general side and decent draw odds in the special.
