Hi all:

My 16 year old daughter and I are hunting Montana this fall. I'd like to get her an affordable, waterproof day pack. It needs to have a waist strap. She is small 5'0" so I'm thinking 1500 or smaller. Any help is appreciated!

I carry the badlands 2200 day pack. Might be ok for her but I wouldn't say it is water proof. Probably need a rain fly like Ikeepitcold said to cover it up.

Finding a day pack won't be a problem but as others have mentioned, finding a waterproof one might be. I've hunted the West all my life & have never owned a waterproof pack. Just get some kind of rain cover or even a trash bag to go over it if it gets real wet. I don't even bother covering my daypacks. Just let them get wet. Can't remember a time where it's soaked through enough to cause any wet gear etc.

I purchased a Badlands pack just fro the reason that the description said that it was water resistant. I took it to British Colombia and soon found out different. I think the contents would of stayed drier if I would of left them out in the rain, at least then they would of started to dry when the sun came out.

Find a pack that she likes and then get a rain fly for it, that way she'll have a pack that she likes and the rain fly will keep the contents dry.

Not sure if your interested but I have a badlands women's day pack I'd sell, the pack is too small for my frame but should fit your daughter. Only used it a handful of times

Look at fishing products. Simms makes nice ones, also saw Umpqua has one as well.

I have a Simms one that works well. My 9 year old son recently used it on a Kodiak Alaska adventure and worked great.

anything made by Simms isn't for anyone on a budget though, but is very solid quality gear. cabelas fast treker does a great job repelling water but in a down pour rain fly is way to go.

Simms Dry Creek Z Backpack. I had the drycreek drybag one and the strap ripped and I sent it back. I upgraded to the Z because the dry bag was a pain to access. Seemed like I always had to pull out everything to find l what I needed. The Z fits me a 6'3" BIG guy to a small 9 year old. So it's real versatile.
