Just got back from my trip, mostly a scouting trip for a rifle mulie tag i hope to draw in the next couple years so success wasn't really a necessity, just a bonus. Not the biggest buck on the block but it was my first mule deer and a spot and stalk archery kill, also a first for me, so I was pretty happy.

It was pretty cold here in north dakota over the weekend, rain, sleet, and snow, temps got down to 13 or somewhere in that ballpark, I was camping in my tent, so that added to the fun.
Shot a grouse, haven't shot one of them in like 15 years

Saw some beautiful country, parts of ND I've never seen.

Saw my first ND elk, really made me wish i had an elk tag, I keep sending in, i keep getting denied

Looked like a pretty darn good bull to me.
All in all pretty fun trip, all the fun a guy could handle for $30. I'm pretty sure some pics will be sideways so if someone with some know how wants to flip those around, thanks in advance.

North Dakota? Never heard of it :)

Congrats on the spot and stalk. It is by far more fun than sitting in ground blinds and tree stands. You need to have a lot more skill than just stand placement and patience.

Best advice I have for closing the distance in ND is to take off your shoes and roll up your pant legs when you start getting close (have to watch very closely at your path and foot placement to avoid loud brush and cactus). I've even taken my shoes off in loud crunchy snow to help close the distance. It does make for a miserable walk back if you're unsuccessful. After that, figure out which spotting scope is the best you can afford and then just say screw it and by the swarovski anyways. I'd choose to go hunting with my swarovski and recurve bow before I'd go hunting with a rifle and no spotter.
