Looks like theres some lower end, waterproof, Garmin gps units that can use the OnX maps-like the etrex series.

I found an etrex 20x for $165.95 online. Good to have options.

Does your app show land ownership? On alot of these hunts you really need to know what is public and private and that is where the chip comes in. Look for sales or even used Oregons on ebay. I paid $250 for my 450t on sale at Cabelas. I would not go to WY without it and the chip.

No-not w/the maps the app has canned with it-they're just USGS topos-but worth seeing if the app can load maps with landowner info-and if yes, what that costs.

That little Garmin etrex 20x looks like an option for the budget minded. 😉 For $265, you get the GPS and chip. ($165 gps+ $99.99 chip).

I havent used the etrex. Maybe some others on here have? Cabelas usually has the oregons on sale around christmas if you dont need it for this fall. There are other sales too if you keep looking.

This etrex 20x has a smaller display than the Oregon for sure, prob less memory/features-they have to cut some where to get the cost down-the 2 biggest drivers will be the display size and memory.

I had on old etrex model that served me well for many years when my bird dog was living and I still played that game. It was bare bones-no maps-just lines and coordinates on a mono display. I had it for like 7 yrs 2006-2013, it ceased to function when one of the kids ran it over with their tricycle.

I bought my 64s after Thanksgiving last year for $130. Looked around a bit and figured out this is not a good time of the year to buy a new GPS if you want the best bang for your buck. Those etrex models were under $100.

Have you looked at onxmaps phone app? It shows everything you need, including land ownership, and is only $30 for a year. Odds are the weather will be good during antelope season which is what it sounds like you will be hunting. Having my phone out in bad weather was the biggest reason I went with a dedicated GPS. Go take a look. A lot of people are very happy with that app.

Thansk 4 the sugg on that app-will check it out. I was wrong on my prev GPS-it wasn't a a Garmin etrex, it was a Magellan explorist-small, bright orange. I found what was left of it in a junk box last nite. 😅

Sales come along too. With online shopping, sometimes the deals come fast and from out of nowhere. Just have to be on the lookout.
