Looks like Alabama is rated as number 1 and my alma mater USC is second. This is the first post sanctioned draft for the Trojans and they did good!

Will be interesting to see how things go for the vols this season. Last year was the first winning season since 2007 and you only have 7 SEC wins in the last 4 years combined so there is still a long way to go. They seem to have a good coach and are going in the right direction which is a drastic change from the last decade of mediocrity. But you did get blown out by a mediocre OU team last year and should expect the same in you second game this year!GO VOLS ! GO VOLS ! Tennessee is not far behind you !
Very true. I was looking over an article on that very subject recently. Really interesting to compare recruiting to results. Really shows which coches do the most with what they have. The class rankings don't always pan out. Remember the #1 QB recruit from 3-4 years ago? Yep, Jeff Driskel who was mediocre at best at Florida. With as many #1 classes as Bama has had you'd think we could get a punt return specialist, but not a chance. The rankings are a good starting point but players must be developed.
Tennessee will be a juggernaut in 2016 with the classes that Butch Jones is putting together. I'll wager they beat OU this year but they are still one year away from competing for conference or national titles.
I fear USC will be back to old form again by next year, but (Sorry CC) let's hope not!
Porter Gustin's ole man and I believe mom is a Wyoming Cowboy. Man, that kid could be a program changer for us. Whelp, the rich get richerLooks like Alabama is rated as number 1 and my alma mater USC is second. This is the first post sanctioned draft for the Trojans and they did good!

You are right about recruits panning out, but my real thoughts are that now that the NCAA sanctions against USC are gone, we can now fill the roster with great players, not just a lot of walkons. (nothing against walkons as some really develop late!). Too bad we had to suffer (as a program) for the underhanded dealing of one player (and his family). The class rankings don't always pan out. Not really. The SEC east has not done much recently. Missouri is winning the division so that should tell you all you need to know about how difficult it is. The vols have just really been that bad. But I do agree things are finally starting to look up.One thing for sure when you get down in SEC you have to take some kicking around before you get back on your feet. Tennessee has taken its lumps over the past few years, I think Butch Jones has us headed in the right direction !
Hey!! Maybe Missouri is a pretty darn good team, that has been a top 20 type program for the last 10 years. One thing for sure when you get down in SEC you have to take some kicking around before you get back on your feet. Back in the day (over 50 years ago), I was a pretty fair HS player who was recruited by a number of major colleges. My career was ended in college because of injury. Today's recruit is vastly different than in my time. Much more exposure, allstar games for HS seniors and huge scouting combines. I also believe these young athletes are vastly superior physically than the HS seniors of my time. Better educated, probably not, but that is just my opinion.I'm curious how often highly rated hs recruits go on to be good/great in college? make the pros?
Our little rural area produces quite a bit of talent. Sometimes they pan out, sometimes they don't. Generally you can tell the ones who will excel at the college level, too hard to tell which will make it in the pros. Take Dez Bryant for instance, he was a freak in HS. Not the most freakish athlete the school had in recent times then, Reggie McNeal took the cake on that and 1 is in the pros, 1 couldn't stay out of trouble. Adrian Peterson was one you could bank on watching on Sundays (and yes, CC, that Trojan Defense bottled him up pretty good during the NC game).
Which part? #1 OU figuring out McNeal was the best athlete on the field, Dez Bryant's cut short time in Stillwater, or OU getting smoked in the NC game?don't remind me
