Hey Everyone.
My name is Mike. We are from Thermop. My 13 year old son and I each drew 97-1 Elk tags. This will be my sons first time hunting anything but rabbits, and our first time hunting Elk. We are both super excited about the opportunity to hunt in the back country and to be able to share in the experience together. More than anything I really would love to see me son get an Elk.
I have doing the homework. We are prepared to hike into the back country Bridger Wilderness area. We plan to hike back into the sticks and set up a spike camp the day before opening day. We will be hiking deeper into the wilderness area daily from our camp. We are prepared to stay 4 nights in the wilderness area and may add food for 2 extra days, and we as prepared as we can be to pack out our harvest.
I have spent a lot of time reviewing the unit maps, topo maps, onX maps, trail maps, and google earth. We have a basic plan of where we want to get to and the terrain we feel the Elk will be in.
Here's where I am looking for help. You guys that are familiar with this Unit over the last couple years, are there any particular areas that tend to hold the Elk? Areas that have found success in the last couple seasons?
Please feel free to PM me or even e-mail me. Any info will be treated as private and personal only unless otherwise stated.
Thank you very much in advance for any help given.
