They extended our youth hunt this year in La. to 1 week. Good thing for us. It's usually just a weekend but since I had to work the weekend, we didn't get to go. I was ready and waiting when she got off the bus yesterday afternoon. As soon as her homework was finished (my wife made us wait) we hit the woods. She missed one last year but I knew she was ready this year. We had been practicing with my wife's .243 and she was doing great for 7 years old. After about an hour, 5 does and yearlings came out to feed in the plot. Took them a little while but they eventually fed into her comfortable shooting range (<100yds). The one I wanted her to shoot looked to be a 1 1/2 yr old with no little one, probably the big doe's last years fawn. Every time it would turn broadside I would put the gun on fire and explain to her to squeeze real slow. I was trying not to laugh because every time it happened, I could feel her start breathing heavy and shaking. So I would try to calm her down and the deer would turn again. It was starting to get dark and it was quartering to us slightly so I explained to her were I wanted her to aim this time and why. At about 80 yds, I had complete
confidence in her. I put the gun on fire again and told her to take her time. She started squeezing and when the gun went off, the deer jumped up like it was hit and ran in. I knew she hit it and asked if she was able to hold it steady. She said yeah and the gun surprised me when it went off. I said perfect! We waited about 20 minutes then got down to check for blood. It didn't take very long for me to realize it was a good hit. After about 75 yds of tracking, we found her. She was pumped!!! The best hunting experience ever for me! On the ride out, she said daddy I got it now, I'm gonna kill a bunch. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414586569.077897.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1414586580.617961.jpg

Just awesome man... It's an amazing feeling to truly know you are doing something special for a kid. I promise she will never forget it.

That's awesome man, congrats to you both. I'll never forget those trips taking my younger brother on youth hunts. We burnt up the roads back then. And now my oldest is 6 and wanting to go. I hope she gets as fired up as yours did. Way to go!!
