Muley or cross with whitetail?

I remember reading something about mixed breeding a few years back. If I remember correctly, other than tissue/DNA sampling, the biologists look at the musk glands on the rear legs. Seems like I remember them writing that the glands are different from both breeds.

I definitely see a mulie in the first photo. Some whitey characteristics around nose in 2nd photo but still has huge ears and that white rump.

Pretty deer.

Looks like a mulie to me. There are some whitetail like characteristics but I do not think its anything other than a mulie doe.

Looks like a cross. I have harvested a couple of cross breeds in my lifetime in NE Wyoming. They had larger tails a little black tip on the tail, browner color of muley but grayer than whitetail. Horns were mixed. Main beam with tines off , and tines branching. I definitely think they inter breed. My first deer was a whitetail in 1962.
