Going over states and wondering which ones I should put in for just preference points on mule deer mainly and elk also.
I've got utah 7points and Wyoming 1pp having trouble with Wyoming it not until after draw you buy pp?
Got 1pp in Colorado but units take to many years seems like. Is there 5-7pp units that are realistically 175+ caliber deer figured LOT be way to go.

I'm archery hunting mostly but wanna build some points for rifle hunts to. Seems Arizona and Nevada have plenty OTC archery mule deer.
Idaho not sure and Montana have no clue.
Just trying to not miss out on points done messed up and to late for Arizona I believe on elk pp?

FYI, in WY, you can mark down for a preference point when you apply for a tag. If you don't draw, then they will deduct the cost of the point (and the app. fee) from your refund. If you neglect to do so, you can still buy a point in the fall. Or, if you just want to point bank, then buy points in the fall. Once you understand it, WY is actually a lot simpler than most other states.
In CO, as an ARCHERY HUNTER, YOU CAN APPLY FOR A POINT AS FIRST CHOICE AND PUT DOWN A UNIT AS YOUR SECOND CHOICE. You could draw, and still gain a point. You also have the option of OTC archery units which again will not lose you your points. Every state is different, and it can get very confusing. Good Luck.

Avoid WA, OR and CA, too expensive vs odds and years to draw. NM and ID are random/no points so apply if you want to go that year. You are already invested in UT so keep it up. NV and AZ are expensive to commit to because of the mandatory NR license but have great deer and elk. CO APPLY for mule deer, it's the best state for imo. Decent elk tags can be had for a few points as well. WY points aren't outrageous so if you have any interest there in the future buy them. MT requires you to buy the general license before applying for limited entry. If you don't draw you are left with the general but there are a lot of options to hunt with the general, including hunting during the rut. It's expensive but might be worth looking into.

There are no OTC tags of any kind in NV. The closest to OTC are the archery tags in the Ruby's. There are always leftover resident archery tags after the first draw for this unit.
After the second drawing any tags that may be are left are available to residents or non-residents on a first come first served basis.

Thanks Alabama! Wyoming does seem like easiest and my thoughts are just like yours on most states.
