My buddies and I all have 2 points for wyoming deer. I've heard some good things about K and I've also heard some negatives about the region. I was hoping someone could help me out with their feelings on the unit. As far as if there are good public areas or if mostly private. Last but not least was curious on quality of deer. Sick of hunting 2 points here in utah and all we're lookin for is a decent buck to fill the freezer. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Im headed to WY for the first time this year. Not region k though. Theres a ton of info to be found on this site though if you look through it. Also check out diyhuntingmaps.com. Gives a good breakdown of each unit as far as percentages of public/private and success rates. Can order maps from them as well that shows all the boundaries. That's about all I can help I can offer though.

You might consider Region H over K just a thought to chew on for a while, Region K has a few good deer but access depending on the unit can be very tricky. H has a better reputation of bigger deer than K and the amount of public ground is about tripled. I'd do a little research and I think you'll find a good answer. Besides in H you can get away from the roads K seems to have them every where and the people use them like a highway, I'd never want another Region K tag especially burning 2 points for it. Another thing to add to Region H is the season is longer so you can miss the floods of people with the week long season in K.
Thanks for the tip. So I guess that brings up a new question. I'm a member of the hunting fool also. And looking at the maps and what have you, it looks to me like region H is mostly the wildlife land, and I really don't want to pay for guiding services. So with that being said is there still enough decent public land outside of those areas?

Towards the bottom of this is gives a description of how the various forest roads and trails are maintained. Your map should also show which are primary and secondary forest roads. It really depends on the weather on the secondary and low standard roads. Even if its dry the low standard roads sometimes have big potholes and boulders to content with. Primary roads I don't mind cruising around with a car, low standards can be a little iffy with a truck if that helps.

Now that you've got some info from us don't run away from the forum like so many do!! It's nice to have another fellow Utahn on here to combat all these guys from Nevada and Oregon!!
This is the best one I have found so far. I have yet to feel like an outsider here and the majority of discussions are mature and helpful. Very little condescending goes on here, which I like!

I've never mule deer hunted before and am trying to find out as much info as I can. I bowhunt for elk in the Salt, Smith and Greys Rivers so I'm physically able to climb mountains. Unfortunately, one of the hunters going with us is not and the mountains would kill him. In 2015 I'm considering K or H. Is the lower elevation of unit 138 something to consider? Other suggestions for a lower elevation hunt would be appreciated. Here's my buddies 6x6 from last year, public land DIY. I shot a 3x5. 
There is some moderate terrain in both G and H, I believe, easily accessible between Kemmerer and LaBarge/Big Piney. With the right location, both a moderate terrain and a more difficult higher terrain hunter could both be happy. I have seen pockets of deer in that area, mostly smaller younger bucks while Moose hunting. I suspect the deer season will be crowded in the easily accessible areas.

Thanks Tim. I have lots of research to do to find that area for our party. We don't have enough points for G and I plan to save points again for that area since I kind of know it.

Welcome aboard Brianh. I believe that we will find some continued point creep again this year. I have been chasing the G tail for a couple years, and decided to hunt H where at least I know I can draw a tag. Expect some changes in the future with the 60/40 split changes.

Disregard the comment on the 60/40 split changes. I have been informed that it died in committee. The Bridger/Teton National Forest maps break down the road and access real well. When you find an area that interests you, look at it on Google Earth. If you've hunted elk in G, then you will have a good understanding of the terrain. I have learned to only use established trails to start the hike in, then bushwack through some tough country to get away from the vast majority of hunters.

Thanks Ric. Google Earth is my friend, LOL. We are starting to lean towards K this year just to deal with my limited partner, and then I'm going to save my points for a solo backpack hunt in G or H in a few years. I've been in quite a bit of the Greys River basin and know how rugged that area is. I was in Duluth last week on business...just down the road from you.
