Mule Deer Muzzleloader Tag

Has anyone drew the december mule deer muzzy tags in unit 39, 40a, 40b, 41, and 42? (I think those are the unit numbers.) I am going to be going down to my Grandma's for xmas this year. She lives in Buckeye which is very close to these units. I have 8 deer points and have been thinking about applying for this tag. Or if I don't draw I would try and do an archery hunt for mule deer while i was there. Is this muzzy tag worth applying for? Do these units hold any deer? Anything you can tell me would be apperiated.

Do they hold deer? Sure do......some of the biggest in the desert units. There are not a lot of deer (numbers) but some giants are killed yearly.

I hunted Unit 39 with my son for his desert sheep in 2008. We hunted the first part of December and saw one mule deer buck in four days of hunting, though we did a ton of glassing. The guide we were hunting with went back in with his bow and killed the buck during archery deer season. It was a nice looking buck and scored about 160. I'd agree with Bohuntr, not a lot of deer.

Have you considered applying for Coues? you could probably draw with 8 points. That would be a fun hunt I'll bet.
