MT whitetail

Connected yesterday Sunday the 13th on my first Montana animal, a 4 year old 4x5 whitetail. No wall hanger but being from northern Michigan originally, to me this is a dandy buck. Took him at 7 a.m. at 200 yards on block management in district 520. After hiking 5-6 miles the day before with my wife in attempt to tag her first ever deer, I came across a group of 3 bucks trailing a hot doe less than a 1/2 mile up the hill from my truck. Got him home and cut up and had tenderloin on the grill tonight.

Did you go strictly for whitetails?
I only ask because i just finished my first Montana hunt, and i targeted mulies but was open to a nice whitetail too.

Thanks kesand, I was targeting whitetails, the piece of land I was on was about 3,000 acres some with pasture and creek bottoms the other side was high plateau with grazing, so plenty of both species around. I was in the same boat as you, just the other way around, targeting WT but wouldn't pass on a nice muley.
