You are correct. I'll pass along the correction to our ID MRS writer. We can't change it in the book since they've been printed, but you should see it correctly in this year's MRS and in the MRS book for next year. Thanks for spotting that.

You can apply for deer, elk, antelope, and bear together. You can only apply for one species of moose, sheep, or mt goat and if you apply for one of those three you can't apply for deer, elk, antelope, or bear.

I think that's right. I'll have our Idaho MRS writer make sure. You can see why he put it as he did last year, but maybe we should make the more detailed statement this year.
Nice to see so much interest in Idaho.I wish our system would allow a few more options but the system works. If you apply for goats, moose or sheep, only "one" of the three, you are not permitted to apply for elk ,deer, or pronghorn. One can still buy Supertags however.Happy New Year to all,Larry

That's what makes the draw odds better for the trophy species than any other state. I wish more draw systems were set up like this. Then I might be able to draw a sheep tag before I'm 112!

Actually, draw odds for ID sheep are not better than most other states.

In 2015, your odds for getting drawn as a nonresident on Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep in Idaho were 5 nonresident tags / 1,000 nonresident appicants. That is half of 1% and they get slightly worse every year, not better, because more people apply and there are no preference or bonus points.

remember that Idaho has non-resident quotas on moose sheep, goat at I believe 5% ,thus dropping the available tag numbers for non res.

Good point ore hunter! The NR quota is up to 10% of the tag quota per species for NR, but it is not a guaranteed 10%. There were 68 total sheep tags drawn in 2015 (5 NR/63 Resident) so NR's actually only drew 7.35% of the sheep tags last year. NR could have drawn one more tag and still have been under the 10% NR cap but didn't.

Since there is no separate drawing for NR's and we are in the same drawing as the residents, once the 10% NR cap is met, a NR has ZERO odds of drawing. Therefore, one can't calculate the true NR odds. Last year, if my math is correct, there were 716 total Resident sheep applicants and 1027 total NR sheep applicants, or 1743 total sheep applicants. Not to split hairs, but because of the 10% NR cap and the combined drawing pool, by my way of thinking the true odds were more on the order of 6:1743 or approx 1/3% as opposed to 1/2% last year. Long drawing odds for a NR for sure no matter how you want to look at the draw odds report!
