Moving to Thermop! General Hunting Question

Well Ladies and Gentlemen I am moving to the basin, Thermopolis to be specific. I was given a wonderful opportunity for a great job there and have pounced on it. I will miss being so close to the Big Horns but am gaining world class waterfowl hunting. However, I do have some general questions about the availability of Elk and Deer around Thermop itself. Obviously, just looking for some general info like where to begin looking. I know the Pronghorn hunting will be good and am looking forward to the amount of public land available. Overall, I am excited to move and looking forward to new adventures. Any pointers would be great folks.

Doesn't get much better than thermop for everything. Fishing. Deer. Elk. Upland birds. Waterfowl. Climate. Accessibility to the bighorns as well the Cody stuff. I hope to retire there. I'm jealous

Yeah, I'm stoked to be going to Thermop. Living in Sheridan has been fantastic but the lack of public ground here is depressing, with the exception of the mountains of course. It gets old watching critters that may as well be on the moon because they are behind posted signs and protected by outfitter leased ground. I guess that is only jealousy talking though... hah! I'll be on the scout for some close to home elk and mulie action down there. Just trying to get a feel for what is there.

Congrats on the move!! I lived in Powell and Worland when I was younger. Still have family up that way. We always hunted unit 62 above meeteetse for elk. Havent been up there for a while so not sure how the hunting still is between all the grizzlies and wolves. If your a coyote hunter there is great hunting around thermop. Waterfowl hunting is really good like you said as long as you can get access. Also a great trophy area for mule deer in unit 125 if you can draw the tag. Congrats again and enjoy the area!

62 would be great for elk... if you could draw the tag, and then IF you could get on private ground... both kind of huge (or expensive) "IF's".

Grizz, I saw on another post you are a teacher, I am also. What do you teach? Want to hear how Thermop treats you. Good Luck.

Congrats Grizz on the new job. Looks like a good time finding some new hot spots for your hunting. Good luck on both.

Elk Area 64 seems to be popular to Thermop residents. As stated earlier, you could also go for 62 but no private land access is needed. 63 is obviously close too and is supposed to be an excellent tag. 125 is great for mulies and the whitetail hunting is also good around Thermop. Just south of Thermopolis through the canyon are some amazing antelope areas and if you don't draw you can pick up the local leftovers.

So... put in apps last night, did area 75 and 86 for Prongies and areas 125 and 168 type ones for deer. Sticking with my party tag for 38 type 9 for Elk, just can't give up that unit after the success I've had there. Again, thanks for the support and ideas gentlemen. I am stoked for a new adventure. Oh, and it will be nice to limber up the Benelli again on waterfowl my pup thinks he is solely a pheasant finder, he is in for a treat!

HEY Grizz ,Was wondering if you still live in thermopolis? If so I was wondering if you could give some insight on the antelope there in unit 83?
