A buddy and I went river float hunting yesterday and harvested this moose. Not the biggest but quite a trophy for him. It was his 1st big game. Taken with a shotgun @ 30 yards!
I hunted deer with a shotgun for years here in Indiana, still do some, due to our regs. Always thought it'd be cool to shoot something like an elk or moose with it. I shoot the Hornady SST Sabot Slugs, 300 grain at around 2k fps from a rifled barrel. Deadly round.
Yes, I was impressed 385 grain accupoint sabot. This was the 2nd moose we've taken with a shotgun and it puts them down better than a rifle we have used on a few other moose. Plus you have some backup shots vs a muzzleloader.
Congratulations!! Pretty good for his first big game animal. I remember my first big game animal, I wasn't old enough to hunt in Colorado at the time and my dad took me to Alaska where my first big game was a caribou that just missed B&C. Spoiled me for the rest of my hunting career
