My son-in-law, Steve drew a good limited either sex elk tag and I've been spending some time with him scouting and familiarizing him with the area. Generally speaking our scouting efforts were not very fruitful. That is, until last Wednesday, when I decided to go out and look until dark by myself. The weather had turned cool and crisp. A beautiful Indian summer fall day. I had a good feeling about going out and finding a bull that day.
Sure enough this is what I found:

On opening morning after spotting him on a different hillside and making a great stalk, Steve got him with one shot at 50-yards.

He was a big old bull. All scared up with a nasty wound on his brow from fighting. He also had broken off a substantial G-3 tine on his left side leaving a stub about 1 1/2" long. counting that stub he has 9-points on his left antler and 8-points on the right. He was a real stud of a bull.
