Montana Canvas Range Tent

I am looking at having Montana Canvas customize one of their "Range Tents" for me for use in the backcountry. Does anyone have any experience with these? My only concern is how they handle high winds since its just a single pole operation. Does anyone have any experience with these in high winds?

I have a similar tent from Reliable Tent Co, except mine has 2' sidewalls. I rode out a horrible wind/snowstorm in it once and it held up fine. I had them put a stove jack in it and I got a very small sheet metal woodburning stove that will take the chill off nicely. I use a piece of 4" schedule 40 PVC pipe for my center pole. Set up couldn't be any easier.

Gladen, this is the first time I've seen a center pole on a range tent. The ones I've used have ties at the peak. You either tie off under a tree or using two exterior poles.

I had this one custom made and it use a single center pole and it has a metal D ring on top to use it pole less if I want. Just got it so I can't speak to the high wind, but in setting it up in the yard a few times now I'm glad I got the 5'sides.

you might want to look at buckstitch canvas outta cody, wy. they have a similar tent for ~$500 and they do good work.

I was in the market for a similar tent a few years ago. I did lots of research and found most of them to be pretty much the same until I ran across this site.

The covered entrance on this tent sets it apart from the others IMO. It simply works great in bad weather and wind. Only takes a few minutes to setup by yourself. I ordered mine with a stove jack but found the stove makes too much heat and a propane heater works better and takes up less space.

I was all set to buy 1 of these a few years ago until I found a Montana Canvas wedge tent in the bargain cave at Cabelas for a deal I couldnt pass up. Its a 10'X12' A frame tent. It has been through wind, rain, and snow and I have been really happy with it and its easy to set up.
