I got buzzed by a B1 on Wednesday in MT...heard the roar and saw the shadow on the ground. Then what seemed like 50' off the ground he went right over me hauling @$$ then climbed a little and banked hard right. And then he was gone. Was kinda cool.We hunted on foot out the south side of the ranch, took an hour or so. Only need one good one!
Butcher said he normally had 20 - 25 animals in by then, my brother's was only the third one in. There still aren't nearly as many tags as before the die off I guess.
I had a funny thing happen there while I was bird hunting on the ranch. I heard a huge engine roar and looked over my shoulder, there was a B1 bomber practicing low altitude maneuvers from a base in SD. The roar was this thing going into a full power climb from no more than a couple hundred feet off the deck. It was like a science fiction movie.
Rancher said it's pretty common, and they stuck one in the dirt a few years back. Everybody got out, one crew member with a broken leg.
As far as antelope...I was in MT region 705. hunting BMA444 and 426 I saw a lot of does and fawns. But not too many bucks. I got there on Sunday and they were all split in groups of 3or4. But after wednesday, they were in herds of 10+ with a few lone bucks going from group to group.... on Thursday I started seeing a lot more bucks chasing does...or pushing herds...
I got a buck into 60yds but shot just in front of him. Wind kinda bothered me a little.
I don't know what "normal" numbers are, but there seemed to be a healthy population. Though I think I saw more mule deer than antelope. One real nice muley buck.
