Its pretty easy to start a mock scrape. I clear out an area below a low hanging branch, usually an evergreen, along a field edge or to the side of a trail around August or September. I don't use any scent just the bare ground will get the deer to come over and check it out. Once one deer leaves scent there, every adult deer that walks by is going to rub that branch and leave scent, does and bucks. Its a great way to get pictures, but once the rut starts only smaller bucks seem to check the scrapes out frequently in my experiences.
