First I want to thank forum members for recommendations. As a NR I burned 11 PP to ML hunt unit 12. I hunted with J Bar H Outfitters, they were outstanding. I used 300 grain Thor Bullets pushed by 100 grains Blackhorn 209 powder. My CVA Accura was topped with a Williams peep. We had plenty of action, with several encounters with cows and 1 near call with a bull at the end of the 1st day. Quiet the 2nd morning, warm and windy, but it came together in the afternoon. Around 5pm we had 2 bulls bugling, we started toward 1 but changed course for the other due to changing wind. We hadn't gone far when he bugled again, I dropped down to the bench below and set up in front of a large Aspen and Pine. He bugled again, coming over the knoll, responding to the cow call. Walking straight at me, the problem was he was directly behind another Aspen between us and I couldn't see him. Probable a good thing as it gave me time to compose myself, it seemed like forever. He finally stepped out broadside and let out another bugle. I swear I felt it in my chest as he was only at 45 yards. The Thor did it's job and he went about 40 yards before going down. I had my 1st elk after 3 previous trips, a 6x6 I feel is a good representation of the species. If you are resident of Colorado and are able to due this annually, you are truly blessed. Thanks again.
