I'm excited get to apply for my Michigan elk tag and fall bear tag on Tuesday and then in a month and a half i find out if i drew it. We don't have a huge elk herd here but they give out about 80 to 100 tags to the residents. Its hard to draw a tag so I will be hoping and crossing my fingers. The elk are not as big as out west but I would just be excited to take an elk in my home state which is a once in a life time draw for bulls (or once in 10 years for cows). So heres to hoping!

The boys in Lansing are talking about cutting the bear tags to half the numbers from the last few years. The quality has fallen off badly. Hope they get it right.
I have put in for an elk tag every year since the start, no dice.

man i hope the tags don't drop to much for bears or ill be waiting a real long time. The unit that's closest to me that we have hunted for deer in for years already only has 60 tags and takes 9 point to even have a shot at a tag. might have to find another unit if they do cut it down to much for bears. I know the unit next to it only took 4 points last year to draw might have to consider that one.

Did you guys see where they shot 8 wolves in Ironwood? They were in town chasing deer that came to bird feeders. That end of the UP is crazy with wolves.

I'll be inspecting the Ironwood post office this month. Got all the UP larger offices plus northern Wisconsin. I saw a big wolf got hit by one of my other offices Shawano, WI. Heard they are as far south as Portage. Looks like there will be a hunting season next fall. Will be up as far as Wausau turkey hunting next week.

No i didn't see that but i know that part of the UP is having some real wolf problems. Been screwing up the deer population up in that area really bad.

Well guys, I got lucky this year....after applying for a Michigan Elk Tag for 30 yrs. I finally drew one. Although it is not a bull tag, its for an anterless elk, kind of bittersweet. My hunt date is December 7th thru 15th 2013. Looking forward to some Elk meat for once. I have three (3) preference points in Wyoming and will have four (4) soon as I will purchase another this year.

Don't really want to mount a cow head head, but would like a momento from the hunt. Anyone have any ideas? I have never shot an elk that wasn't hit by a vehicle first!...lol

I am headed to Wyoming for an pronghorn hunt in October, so am looking forward to that. Hunting the Douglas area as we have for many years. I was hoping to draw an elk tag for the Laramie peak area, which is in a trophy area. Anyone have any thoughts on another area with decent harvest opportunity?

I would tan the hide and get the ivories. Also congrats even if its a cow tag it will still be cool to be able to hunt a elk in your home state.
