Just thought i would start some conversation since this site has been quiet for some time.i shot a spike bull in this unit last year but there always seems to be a lot of hunters. Is that the same experience that everyone else is having and should i concentrate my efforts some where else. Does anyone have an oppinion one way or another? The bull was shot during rifle season.

Yes yes..no elk there... Too many hunters....ehhh try deadwood!!! Lol

I have hunted it the past three seasons in archery. It takes finding a hole, pattern the animals there, and don't hunt weekends.

success is easy in that unit if you get to know it. I am not picky on size or horns so that helps too.

I live in the zone and steer away from hunting it if at all possible. Take a look at the harvest statistics, if you archery hunt or rifle hunt this zone gets lots of pressure. It's too close a getaway for most of the treasure valley. Take a look at the Idaho Elk Management Plan and you'll see its not exactly a steller unit for animal numbers if you take out unit 23 which is mostly roadless and has most of the elk. I guess it just depends on what you are after but I'd look around as other zones probably have better animal numbers and reduced pressure.

It just depends on if your trying to rifle or archery hunt the zone and which unit your in, will make the hunting good or bad. I've hunted on and off for the last 10 years and have had good success, but I also have had family hunting the area long before I could hunt.
