Odds are you got it in the random draw, if you had low points. 25% ish of the tags usually are done that way in OR.

Wapitibob could you PM me. I looked at the report and I must be an idiot. I did draw the 470a tag but don?t really understand how I got it by the report.

if you look at the 1st line of your hunt, there are 5 numbers: 21, 1, 1, 1, 1

21 is the max point pool for all that applied to that hunt
1 is the Total number of apps (res and non res)
1 is the Total number of drawn apps (res and non res)
1 is the number of nr apps, within the total
1 is the number of nr that were drawn

so, one person applied with 1 point, he was a nr, and he drew

The report does not show apps with zero points, nor apps drawn in the 25% random side.

it just amazes me how these antelope hunts change in necessary points each year. seems as though they jump 2-3 points each year when we can only apply for 1 preference point. I have been putting in every year except one for the last 14yrs since my last hunt. I would like to go on one more hunt for speed goat.

I did the math about 4 years ago. If no more people were allowed to apply for antelope and tag numbers stayed the same it would take 14 years to flush the points system. I stopped applying for antelope after drawing with 15 points. I have a better chance at a premium hunt or raffle hunt in the next 20 years than a do a draw hunt. Antelope hunts here aren’t that much fun to me anyway, I don’t like hunting in 100 degree weather.

Thats a great point about the heat and your conclusions I agree with. I may have to really consider hunting out of state perhaps which is a bummer to some extent.

The heat is an issue for comfort and meat care in OR antelope seasons. It’s a challenge for the cape too. But I enjoy it. Just take a big cooler full of ice to ice the meat right after the kill. Same for the cape.

There are 1/4 of the tags allocated to the random draw, we’ve got one there. For me, it’s a no brainer to apply for residents. But the more that opt out, the better my odds become... There are a number of other states with better odds and later seasons with cooler weather.

There is no downside to driving out of Oregon to hunt.

ya We took several Ice chests for my hunt and even though we kept everything cool i still lost my cape. Had to order one from Montana if i recall so mine has that scraggly look to it vs the smoother lighter coat that our Goats have due to the heat. with that said it was very memorable and look forward to my son having the chance himself one of these years.

We camped on our cots under the stars, was way cool. the road being so rocky it took 2hrs to travel 5 miles haha. good times
