Has anyone tried these out yet? They are out of Wyoming and relatively new I think. They say they are high end optics at medium prices. Going to the website it looks neat that you can design your own colors and lots of other stuff before you buy. Thinking about picking up a pair. Just don't know how well they are. Might be too new for anyone to have any info on. They say they cut out all the middle men and that's how they can offer then so cheap.

I haven't heard of them till this thread. I just sent them an email asking some questions so I'll post my Q&A with them when I get a response.

Here's the response I received from one of the owners of Maven:

Tim, thanks for reaching out. All three of the operating Owners used to work for Brunton and we were heavily involved with the product development of their top of the line optics. The units we are producing now out perform those in all categories, primarily due to advancements in technology over the years since the Epoch and Eterna lines were developed.

As far as where to demo them, you have 2 real options.

One: Wind River Outdoors in Lander WY is our sole retail store carrying our binoculars. We operate on a direct-to-consumer price structure, allowing us to make optics that compete with the German and Austrian brands but at about half the price. We chose this one store so that locals could go there instead of come by our warehouse, which is not set up for retail sales.

Two: You can try a demo unit from us. We charge a deposit for a lightly used bino ($800 for an 10X42), you use/test/play then you return it (using the included shipping label) and we refund your deposit.

Let me know if you need any more info.

Cool concept using the Kuiu no-retail model. If the glass is good this could be pretty sweet. I've seen pics of these binos online and their thing seems to be cool dipping/wrapping in things like Kuiu and Kryptek camo.

Hopefully they can get a going if they are what they say they are. I read about them in the casper star-tribune. Maybe Eastmans can have a review of them in the future compared to the optics the company compares themselves to. I'm very interested. Just don't think they are known enough yet for everyone to give any reviews.

I've used them- they're pretty nice. They won't replace my go-to binos, but they are nice optics. They'll be a top competitor in that price range once word gets out- assuming the "business" end is received well (look at the following Vortex has built with their warranty and CS).

I may be able to afford the $500 pair but no way would I be able to afford anything higher. Besides that, I would feel like I could never take the out for fear I would scratch them or get the new off of them at that price. If I never bought an expensive pair, I wouldn't know the difference and still think my $200 pair are great.

I agree with roknhs. I'm one of those guys that has to save up a just to take my week long deer or elk hunt. I have a pair of Leupold 10X50
that I bought about 9 or 10 years ago and they work perfectly. I can glass all day long and not get a headache. I have used cheapo binos
and you get a headache in a couple of hours. They are crystal clear and best of all they were less than $300.
I wonder how many of the tv guys would be using those $2500-$3000 Swarovski binos and spotting scopes if they were not given to them for free by the sponsors?

My $200 Vortex D-Back's have been excellent for me. I would rather spend what optics budget I have on a better rifle scope personally. Like Gr8 said above, I have glassed all day with the 10x42s and never got a headache or felt dizzy. That's what was happening with an old pair of Nikons I used to have. Plus these Vortex binos go everywhere with me...without fear of messing them up. They are literally my front seat passenger at all times.

I've checked out their site and they do look cool in how you can customize them. My only concerns are with the fact that they are so new and who knows if they'll survive. Brunton optics did not. Also I don't think customized binos will hold their value well relative to standard versions.

I'm very tempted to get a pair. Just waiting until a few more guys get some reviews out. The bird watchers have taken notice. (They're glass whores whose options I value). I'm missing some animals and details with my current pair of lighter weight binos compared to my antique zeiss or my spotter. Just really can't justify 2k for a set of Swarovski an extra grand goes a long way on a trip to actually hunt. So I could not go out west for a year and have awesome binos or spend a grand and still go on a trip. Interesting you can demo a set. I may do that.... Tempted.

I looked at some Mavens today at the Sheep Show and was impressed, Very well built and feel great in your hands. The glass was very crisp and clear. I'm not trading in my Vortex but I was impressed and I really like their business model.
