I struck out again in the wy. moose draw don't know if I will ever draw but after 19 yrs of applying I did draw a Sept. bull tag in zone 6. never been to Maine and was hoping someone on the forum might help with some info .I was planning on doing it myself. Any thoughts would be appreciated, Thanks.

Congratulations! Been years since I've been hunting in Maine, but wanted to congratulate you.
Unit 6 should hold some decent critters, historically it was an area where they'd say not to shoot a moose too far from the road, not cause it was hard to pack, but because you didn't have to.

Curious how you did in Maine. I apply for moose in Maine & perhaps someday I'll draw. I wish I would have noticed this thread sooner as I have some contacts in Maine that would have loved to have helped you.

I know bob. He took his grandaughter out to Maine for moose. She took a nice 800 lb bull the first day. I think it had 19 points with a 46 inch spread. Hope he doesn't mind me posting a pic.

Thank you Pikeman for posting the pic.I was going to do it but didn't know how.My granddaughter and I went to Maine a week early to Scout ahead of time and got a lot of help from Ben at Bens Trading Post in Presque Isle.Also a guy I met from Maine 19 yrs ago at a caribou camp in Quebec who told me about the moose hunt agreed to help after not talking to him since then,Maine hunters are the best.Erin and I scouted the spots Ben told us about for a week found lots of sign seen 3 moose and had a good plan.First morning we didn't quite get to our first spot when we spoted this bull in a field we went after him and Erin made a great running shot through both lungs with her 308 180 gr.core locks, it was 10 min. after shooting light.Sometimes things just work out,we were 2 happy hunters. It was a once in a lifetime hunt and when she looks at her bull on the wall it will bring back those great days.

I probably should explain about the Maine moose tags,2 people can hunt on 1 tag for 1 moose.I was the permitee and I listed my granddaughter as the subpermitee then all she needed was her $115 dollar hunting liscense.Also we passed our info to some great guys from Maine that we met and they called me the last day to say they just killed a 805 lb 47 inch moose in one of the spots and had it dragged out by a 2700 lb Belgian draft horse. When we got our moose I called them that first morning and they stopped their hunt and came within 15 min. to help us drag our moose up on our trailer.how can you find better friends than that. You Cant.

I was looking at the Maine site and could never figure out the cost of a non-resident moose tag. That is neat how you can get a co-tag. Well If I get first shot I guess.

Thanks Yell Co. If you could have seen the look on her face when we walked up to it you would know why all the effort was completely worth it, what a moment. The tag cost me $585 plus $117 for my hunting liscense.Like I always say I don't know if I will be hunting in the next life so whatever the cost if I want to do it I have to do it now.

Congrats Yooper Bob, Very nice bull. How many points did you have? I was going to ask about the general moose population you observed but doesn't sound like you were up there long enough to notice! I drew a NH tag back in 2012 and scored big but moose sightings were dismal. I got max points in Maine and list my step-nephew as my co-permitee every year. Figure I got one already and he may never due to the supply/demand, even though he lives up there in Lewiston. Good you beat the odds and drew before next season when the outfitter welfare skims 20% of the NR tags off the top.

Zim,I had 71 points been applying for 19 yrs,I thought that was bad until I met some locals that drew with 30 yrs and another 36yrs.We were there a week ahead of the hunt to scout,we were out all day checking the spots we were told about.Fresh sign everywhere,had a hard time picking the best ,any spot could have produced. we knew we were going to get a chance just didn't think it would happen that fast.Very grateful. Yell Co. yes give it a try with your wife,bear in mind it took me 48 yrs of marriage to wear my wife down ,start now good luck.

Isn't newfoundland moose cheapest/easiest? a consideration... You'll probably draw Maine the year after you book a moose hunt, ha.
Perhaps book a bull moose hunt in newfoundland or elsewhere and put in for a Cow Moose tag in Maine the year after or down the road?

Personally, I apply for shiras out west, I started relatively young so I assume in my lifetime I'll draw a tag, as for Canada and alaska-yukon hopefully I'll have more money in the future to pursue those.
