Hello all,
My friend and i drew general season elk tags for Montana and will be commencing our hunt shortly. Our plan is to hit the early rifle season for the backcountry units 150 and 151 in hopes of getting some rut activity and also a little warmer weather.
We are both experienced backpackers and are fully prepared to cover ground, but even with that the amount of terrain/access points has made us think a little more. At the moment we have no livestock but are strongly debating leasing some to help us out. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
We are well aware of the forest fires and closed trails in the area at the moment and also the campfire ban. We're not looking for honeyholes or anything like that, but any general recommendations or notable road blocks in the area we should know about would be greatly appreciated.
We appreciate any other general suggestions as well.
Thank you in advance! We are excited for the hunt!
