Looking for advise on archery OTC elk hunt in colorado,idaho.or utah.

Looking at these 3 states for the 2017 archery season, have kinda a unit picked out in colorado but was looking for more advise in colorado and the other two states i mentioned thanks.

Start building points for the limited draws for big elk. For otc Idaho on the National Forest can produce small 6x6's. Colorado and Utah expect raghorns.

You are going to have to have some points for the better units in both Colorado and Utah, however Utah would get the nod over Colorado for a general season elk tag just for the reason that most rifle hunters have to hunt spikes only in all the units except for a few. That allows the bulls to grow and you can find some real respectable bulls there. Colorado on the other hand has a 4 pt restriction in place for a lot of the units and the bulls have a hard time getting very big. That is except for the units that you are going to have to have a dozen points to draw a non resident tag at. Utah is the same way on their LE hunts but then these units are also off limits to the general season archery hunters.

Comment on CO......Jim P is spot on......respectable 320-325 bulls are running all over Colorado....just depends how bad you want one in relationship to the amount of sweat equity you want to put in. Plenty of OTC archery and limited hunts that take only 1-3 points and sometimes zero to get into.

Combined with multiple seasons/methods of take for each GMU and A and B tag allotments......you can really learn an area quick/animals in it if you spend the boots on the ground time.

Don't get me wrong........I love when I read Co bulls are small, hunting pressure is terrible ...etc etc...
