I don't find the .300wm terrible in my T3. Certainly wouldn't want to shoot it all day. About 15 shots and thats all I want. More felt recoil is certainly a trade off with any lightweight rifle.

Has anyone used the CVA single shot break action rilfes (scout and hunter models)? They are super cheap, short overall length, and lightweight coming it at 5.8 lbs for the regular model and 5.5 lbs for the compact.

I haven't heard anything at all about them. Might have to buy one just to find out.

Did you look at the Ruger American rifles yet? They are not sexy, but they are darn near 6 lbs in the short actions and not much more in long. They can be had in my area for $350 and the reviews are good. I handled one and was impressed with it, my heart was set on a Tikka but I am looking hard at the Ruger now for a trade up from my Savage 110 in 3006, at least in the weight department.

Unfortunately, options for fair value are hiding around every corner these days! Customs will always be king, but MANY value priced rifles will do anything you ask of them anymore. I currently can't seem to find any faults in a Savage 116 FLHSS in .300 Win. 3/4 inch groups or better if I do my part on most days!

Cheers,

Browning came out with an x bolt called the western hunter comes with a factory muzzle break. The short actions come in at 6.5 pounds and the long actions just under 7
