Hoping for some fresh suggestions on where I could diy for elk not needing more than a few draw points with minimal rugged terrain.
I’ve bow hunted elk with my son for 18 years and getting to the point in life where steep is no longer a good option but I want to continue elk hunting for many more years.
We’ve killed elk in Co,Mt,Wy and Idaho and most all were in steep terrain I prefer not to go back too and chance rolling an ankle or worse. We’ve hunted units 11 and 38 in Wyoming, and unit 16 in Colorado that have ideal terrain and good elk populations for my tastes but don’t see having 10 points for Wyo again in my future. The Colorado spot is OTC but 11+ miles in and will require pack out stock which remains a future option.
Not asking for anyone’s honey holes, just maybe a unit in a state you hunted or scouted in the past and don’t plan to return that I could research and scout for the future.
My experience says there is no easy elk hunting, distance or remoteness not my concern as much as steep rockslides etc.
Will appreciate any fresh suggestions.

idaho
this might be something tag hub could help you with???

there are plenty of units in idaho that aren't to steep and have elk. some are draw hunts ,some are not.
pretty much everything in sw idaho south of snake river is pretty mellow terrain. some hills and canyons but not brutaly steep like central idaho can be. lots of the country around mcall isn't to bad either.

As said above check out TagHub.
Listed there is a ton of information on what your looking for. Terrain, points to draw are all there. Good luck

Even a general elk tag in Wyoming for NR's will require at least 3 pts. I've hunted late season cow elk, and snowmobiled in the area near Cokeville, and there is quite a bit of steep country (Raymond Mts.). Much of the surrounding country isn't too bad, but that doesn't mean that the elk will be there when the season starts.

TagHub has whole layer setting dedicated to this and can filter it even further to show you what hunts you can draw with your points totals.

Thanks much for the thoughts on sw idaho. I’ll check those areas and I’ll venture a look at tag hub.

I don’t know the point requirements, but South-West Wyoming has plenty of elk and for the most part has pretty tame terrain! Kemmerer, Cokeville areas immediately come to mind! memtb
Thanks for the reply. Love the sw Wyo areas! As a NR even the Wyo general units are taking 2-3 pts to draw now so I guess looking more for otc or zero pts units as I buy and build Wyo points for future hunts.
