After many years of reading/following various threads in this forum, I suppose its time for an introduction..

My name is Chris, I am a native of Colorado and have explored and hunted all over this state, as well as hunting in many other states. I am married to a great woman who attempts to understand and tolerates my hunting obsession. We have a 4 year old son and 2 Labradors. I enjoy anything outdoors, photography and family. I have recently volunteered to become a Hunters Education Instructor. I am employed by the State of Colorado-CDPS.

I have been on the preference point roller coaster here in Colorado for nearly two decades for everything in our limited draw, in some cases I am on my third go around in point collection and others I am at 20 pp and apprehensive to burn them up. My bear points have disappeared, so it does appear I will be hunting bear on the Bosque del Oso this September. One redeeming thing about waiting to draw these tags is it allows for extensive knowledge building of the places I want to hunt. I am always willing to pass along starting points for those that want a little direction or assistance. I do believe that Eastman's forum is one of the more respectful places to talk all things hunting, even though we all fancy ourselves subject matter experts, but that is what makes these forums interesting and entertaining.

Talk to y'all down the road....

Put in for the early portion of September.. I have had two different friends hunt there-one for elk and one for bear. Both had great experiences.. I am really looking forward to early September.

Welcome!!! Bosque is a special place... Might not see many elk on your Bear hunt though. Are you camping on site or staying in Stonewall?

Just spent two days walking and glassing the Bosque. Saw bear sign but no live sightings. Got rained on hard on Sat. afternoon. Roads everywhere, gas and oil developed all over the place. A little bit different terrain than I thought it would be. Saw plenty of mule deer and elk in velvet. Nice to get away for a couple of days.

Did you talk with any DWM up there? Bob Holder could point you in a good area. Maybe some berry patch up some canyon. The gas development does not seem to bother the animals much. Plus those roads may come in handy when you get your bear down.. Did you get a map from the DOW shop At the Western most entrance? If not, try and get one. They are free. Good luck in your quest!!

Yes, talked with Bob Holder last week before we went. Talked with some oil and gas guys we mwet on the roads and asked them questions. Had a map we downloaded from the CPW. Is there maps available that shows all the roads and gas/oil sites? The CPW map just shows the main roads and is not detailed.

Not that I am aware of. I tried to get a map that one of the gas guy's had as it had every road on that damn thing. But he said no way it would cost him his job. It would be nice, because there are so many a guy could easily take the wrong road back down and just end up at a well site.
