I know it's not "big game" but they sure are fun to hunt. But does anyone have any advice on hunting Merriams in the Lincoln National Forest? I'd like to make a hunt this spring and also scout for elk. One day I hope to draw an archery tag for those units.

Sure! Get in shape. Chasing mountain turkeys is I think the most exercise of anything I've hunted. Get to a good spot in the dark, find a gobble, then go after it. Clock is ticking! That may mean straight up or over the next 3 ridges.
What unit are you thinking of? I can put you on some in 36, but I don't want you drawing my elk tag!

Haven't done a lot of research yet. I've struck out the last two times I applied for NM archery elk. Maybe third times a charm!
