You might not want a "lightweight" tripod for a big 85 mm. Might need something just a little beefier to handle it. Just something to think about.

The Promaster Carbon Fiber 525 I bought for the razor 65mm is awesome I love it. Still new to it all but I've been hiking into the hills with it everyday after work watching the bucks that are still packing their antlers. Its nice and light I think its about 2 lbs for only the legs. I am very happy with it and have read a lot of reviews from other people who like it also.

look into the slik brand specially the slik pro II and then buy yourself a manfrotto head with a quick detach. I have the 65mm razor this system works well for me.

Do you like the head that came with this tripod?

I got a great deal on this Vanguard 225 with a ball head last year. Super lightweight and the 5 section legs get it real small. I never head out without it!

Without the adapter attached it fits completely inside the side pouch of my Eber X2, I usually leave the adapter on and zip it up just leaving it sticking up barely.

The only downside is it's too small to stand up and glass with.

The Slick Mini Sprint II works really well for my vortex rzr 65mm scope. It's technically designed for a dslr camera but it supports the weight of mine with no issues at all. It probably won't hold your big scope but it will hold the 50mm your looking to get. It's tall enough to where I can stand up and look down through my angled eye piece without too much strain. (I'm 6'4") I would recommend this to anyone going on a backcountry trip that is worried about performance and weight of a tripod.

Outdoorsmans is the way to go. Light, steady, and a lot of options… I have 3 mediums, 1 small compact, pistons head and pan head…. I have found the mediums with center post extension to work the best. You can use them sitting on the ground, in a chair or standing.
Watch the Garage Sale area on this site as well as craigslist.

I have picked up two tripods off of craigslist. One for a friend and the other as a backup. If you want new I can get about a 15% discount. Send me a PM if interested.
