Leupold VX-3 4.5 x 14 CDS

Just bought one of these from a local forum member for $475.00 LNIB never mounted. Anyone have one of them. I have been wanting to step up a notch on my glass and thought this was a good deal as the cheapest I could find a new one was $599.00.

Love them myself... put in the effort upfront to fine tune your bullet, it will pay off. Too many people just go off manufacturers specs and it defeats the purpose of the cds. Enjoy. Crazy fun to see how it works and the simplicity it adds to hunting.

I also have the VX3 4.5-14 without the CDS. I have the BC reticle... love the glass and have never had any issues with this or any of their other optics over the past 20+ years. You got a great deal... enjoy.

Thanks for the replies. In order for me to order the correct dial do I chronagraph the load and tell them the weight and type bullet? I think I am going to enjoy tinkering and hunting with it.

Is the elevation CDS turret with the scope in MOA or does it have a ballistic turret on it?

you need to let them know the elevation you plan on hunting or shooting at, average temp, bullet velocity,weight, ballistic coefficient. I have 4 of these style scopes(cds) use them for hunting/shooting fun to use . really lets you see how accurate you can be at further distances. last one I ordered was around $50-60 . first one is included with the scope if the previous owner didn't get it?

If you really wanted to be accurate not only do you need to get the elevation and the muzzle velocity, and the BC but you actually need to take that rifle with that ammunition get a good hard zero and then actually shoot it on paper or steel and see if those drops that your software gives you is actually accurate out to at least seven or 800 yards. I like to check it at every 100 yard increment.
If your actual drops do not match up with what you're ballistic software is giving you then what you do on the software is change the muzzle velocity until it matches up with your actual drops. With good BC information from Bryan Litz any error usually ends up being with our chronograph. Also not having a true 100 yard zero or 200 yard zero whichever you choose can also make your drops look wrong as well, so it is very important to make sure your zero is truly spot on at your zero distance.

I have the vx-3l 4.5-14x with cds and I love it. Ive only shot it out to 350 yds so for but it was right on. Great in low light as well.

I had a 3-9 VX-R for a season and the CDS dial moved without me noticing a few times. The scabbard I have is snug fitting and was the culprit I'm sure. Ended up wrapping electical tape to hold it.
Deal breaker for me, it went down the road. I have scopes with locking turrets now.
Just a heads up. YMMV.
