Mine is a Remington Corlokt .270 win 130 grain 250 yard shot. In at the base of the neck, in front of the left shoulder, stopped in between the last 2 ribs and the hide. He made it 4 steps.

Nosler Ballistic Tip, 30-06, 165 grain, 200 yard shot into an antelope.
Quartering away ... shot went through one lung and on up into the neck.
Broke the spine in the neck and stopped against the hide on the far side.
Dropped in it's tracks ... never even twitched.

The only bullet that I have been able to recover in the last 40 years was a 300 grain Thor out of my muzzle loader that hit a bull elk. Two others were complete pass through shots. The one that was recovered broke ribs going in and 2 ribs on the off side before coming to rest just under the hide on the far side.

Here it is next to one right out of the box.

130gr. Remington Swift Scirocco shot 220 yards through the pocket of a bull out of a .270 Remington. Ended up losing the bullet at the time of kill but knew where it was and went back for it 3 years later with a metal detector. I couldn't get the image of a perfect mushroom out of my head so I had to go get it. Ended up being over 90% retention which I think is amazing!!

Too bold of a thread for this skinny, 5'9", pasty white guy.

Truth be told I have only recovered one bullet from an animal and if I recall I threw it into the melting pot, melted it down, made bb's out of it, and then shot a crow with the bb's.

Here's the Barnes bullet that I used on my UT muzzle loader elk hunt. Went through the ribs and high on the off-side shoulder. Found it against the skin on the off-side. Bull dropped where he stood.

2 Swift A Frames.
Left bullet was recovered from my cow bison after it shattered the shoulder socket and passed through both sides of ribcage and lodged in the off side muscle. One shot kill. Right bullet from my mule deer buck passed through the shoulders and lodged in off side shoulder muscle. Dropped him in his tracks.

Yeah, I don?t recover many bullet either. Lots of exit holes with my shots.

This is from a couple weeks ago. 30 cal. 200 gr. ELD-X recovered in the offside shoulder of a large cow elk. Only about 40 yd. shot entering through a rib so impact velocity was over 2800 fps. I've read on Hornady's site that this can happen in extreme cases where the bullet expands past the threshold of the integral interlock ring.

I?ve never recovered a rifle bullet, but I have a few muzzleloader bullets. This was from a whitetail doe this year. Hornady XTP 250 gr. Facing right at me, shot in the chest and recovered in the hindquarter.
