Heading out early. Hoping to there by noon or so. That'll give me two and a half day to scout. Bringing the .410 along for mountain grouse if I get the chance.
Super pumped to get up into the hills and see the sunrise over the tops on opening day. Our tags are good for a browtine bull or cow, so I figure I'll probably be trophy hunting for the first 10 minutes, after that anything goes! LOL

Good luck guys. I lived in SW Montana for 6 years. Love it out there. I won't be going this year, tags are pricey for non residents these days. Not sure where you're hunting but I always had good luck for Elk south of Grant, mt. It's SW of Dillon. Or try a place called Bloody Dick Creek. Sounds bad, but hunting is good.

Good luck men.

Just got back from our trip last night, I ended up tearing up my right knee on Friday really bad so I was done hiking for the last two days of our trip. I see the doctor today to see what the prognosis is so I'm crossing my fingers that I can still hike a little in a week or so. At least I hurt it towards the end of our vacation which is a plus. Becides that we did see lots of elk and missed a large 6pt bull on day 2 of our hunt. We couldn't connect on any other elk one once the large snow storm came in a few days later. Monday/Tuesday were a nightmare since we couldn't see and the snow was very deep. Once it cleared up we busted trail with the rzr and made it slowly. We did end up filling all of our deer tags during the week and all made great shots on our animals! We helped our neighbor who is new to hunting harvest his first animal and he was so proud of his deer. Made me feel happy that he loved every minute of the harvest and now is addicted to hunting. Were thinking on loading up and going back down there Thanksgiving weekend if my elk tag isn't filled by then (and hopefully I can walk a little better by the end of the season) I know this is an elk thread but here are a couple pics from our trip!

We were pushing snow with the front of the bumper once we got on top.

All of our bucks from the trip

P.S.- If anybody bought a sheep tag also for the Tenoy's there still is a fair amount of them running around too. We saw a lot of Ewe's but no rams

Awesome pictures missjordan. I heard that storm came in after we left. Down in Cameron they were supposed to get 3-5" and ended up with 24". Glad that held off till after I left. Hate to hear bout the knee. Hope it's not too bad and you heal up quick. Sounds like an adventure.

It is I am pretty sure there is no sheep hunting that far south in the Tendoys they moved the boundary north for the special hunt. That is a different herd where you were. Did you make it over to Buffalo springs that is good country.
My favorite area, it's so beautiful!

No I've never heard of it! Will explore the area more next year. We know sage and blacktail really well and wanted to spice things up and I am really glad we did, it's way different than the other side. Need to also check out cabinet creek and more of mud too, there is so much country down there it makes exploring fun!

Well, heres my story. We arrived two days before season and seen elk both days with a couple nice bulls in the herd. Opening day came and i went for it checking two of three draws that i thought they would be in. So i knew the next day that id probably be into them. Long story short, family matters happened so we ended up leaving for gome the next morning! :( So i missed my opportunity.
Good news is im headed back out tuesday. Now my question is, does anyone know how much snow is up in the high country?? Particularly in the gravellys and snowcrest mountains?? Any information on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

There's a decent amount mainly about 1-2ft (not including snow drifts)and continuing to snow here and there, you'll need chains for your pickup if you plan on driving certain roads up high
