Just joined EHJ and probably won't get to hunt in the western states this year however would still like to apply for preference points in a few states but haven't done much research, any advice would be be appreciated.

I am a newcomer to western hunting and I am doing a mule deer/antelope hunt this year in Wy. I plan to buy an elk pp in wy and an elk bonus point in MT. Both are $50 starting July 1st. Deer and antelope pp in WY are $40 and $30 after July as well. I highly recommend spending the $70 for the eastmans MRS it gave me a lot of insight and more information than you could ever find on your own on the Web in one book. Good luck!

This is a great resource for answering any questions you might have. Feel free to ask specific questions about style, species, state, etc. etc. Also a good way to research is through the search menu. If you have a question there is a good possibility it has already been asked and answered, just type in a couple key words and see if anything pops up on your subject of interest. This is a great forum with great people. There are no ego's here or people that think they are better than everyone else. Stick around you will learn a lot and enjoy the company. I'm sure you will also have a lot to add. Once again, Welcome!

It depends on your budget, age, type(meat, fun, trophy), and species you would like to hunt. First of all you need to come up with some budget, then decide type of hunts you would like to do and start doing research. Keep in mind, Wyoming sheep, moose, goat, and bison is due on February 28th, there is no points on bison and goat but you have to pay entire tag fee upfront and they will refund at the end of May if you are not drawn. You can buy points for all species except bison and goat in Wyoming starting July.
Utah deadline for all species is March 3rd. I would start with this two states.
Good luck!

hunt on OTC tags in the meantime, don't wait on a draw tag to start hunting, or you'll have no idea what you're doing when u do draw a tag
