Has anyone here ever hunted the whiteriver late gun hunt . I have been trying to find out info. on the hunt to see if its worth burning my points on. It dont matter to me that they are black/mulely crosses. Just as long as there is some big ones. I have 16 points now ,but it still maybe a few years to draw , not sure if this is the year they give the n.r. tags to the outfitters, any info would greatly help. thank you.

I burned 16 points in 2009 for the tag. It is an awesome hunt. I tell everyone to apply for it. It is the best deer hunt in Oregon….period. The bucks have very little mule deer in them, if any, and look like blacktails, and I have dozens of blacktails on our ranch.

When I burned my points was in the max point pool and could draw any tag in the state. Basically the choice came down to a mediocre mule deer hunt (the best Oregon has to offer) or the best blacktail hunt I would ever go on. The choice was pretty easy.

Its all good, I knew oregon wasnt on top of the list on big trophys, but a great state to just go hunt and have a great time.. I drew a oregon sheep tag a few years back , so what ever the state has to offer is fine with me. This many points gives me a option to split my points with someone or just keep trying for a good hunt exp.
