If your gonna spend 2-4k on a LOT for archery elk. What state and area would be best for really good opportunity at a 320+ bull ? Maybe 6k for really good elk area once every 5 years.

Same question for mule deer also in 170+ range. Archery early season spot and stalk preferably first two weeks season.
My best friends dad hunts lot of OTC areas and I wanted to buy us a tag one time for a good area to repay some favors they've done for me. Also like to know areas to research deep into for future hunts.
I'd generally have time to go out and scout month before trip for a week or so. Then go back for hunt week early and stay at least 3 weeks. I don't mind leaving empty handed and hunting hard for weeks at a time. I just wanna know im where they live and good place to hunt. Its expensive taking time off work and hard work put into the hunt. Just wanna hunt a good area if I'm gonna go that far to get there.

Thanks

NM

I think you're $2000 too low or 40" too high.
Lowered the quality Lil bit lol
Guess the question should've been whats best areas you can get for 2-6k
I know there's no limit on money to some of the tags.

Bend, Orygun
unit 52 were 2-2500
unit 34/36 were 3K when I bought them, 4K now
Gila were 4500 and i see them at 6K now.

36 is the unit you want if you have the legs.

Thanks Bob! I'll be researching the areas a lot. Like to take horses in long ways setup camp good week before and start glassing. Me and buddy are planning on one of of us getting the middle tag ten days and the last tag 6 days I believe is right. Setup glass week before hunt and be ready for it. Give us good month out there.
You are allowed to pack in before your hunt aren't you?

If you want to buy a LO tag in Co for deer, I would look to the eastern plains first.
Seen lot of good deer come from that area for sure. Is it mostly private or lot of public? Be good if could find some private land to hunt I'm sure.

Basically all private and mostly leased up by outfitters. But the opportunity for a big buck certainly exists.

Been talking with my buddy and where starting to plan for 2017 now.
New mexico is the target and wapitibob you recommend 36 so I'm looking hard at that.
Does anyone know where to buy landowner tags for 36?
What other area would be really good area.
I'm buy 2 LOT or put in draw first see if one of us can draw a tag. One for first season one for second. Would odds be better both of us apply for early season get one tag and plan on buying the second hunt LOT?
Outfitter to set us up in good area way back would be good to know where in the right area.
Maybe info pointers on here we've got all the stuff we need to camp and could do camp ourselves if knew where to go. Thinking scouting trip in spring or outfitter.
We wanna stay the whole month of September.

It sounds like time and money are not a issue for you. For your information I just talked to an outfitter for a deer hunt in Colorado for a 5 day hunt he wants 6500.00 and that is if I draw the tag. Not sure where you can get a tag in a unit that will meet your expectations for two people for less than that plus the fees for a camp. Good luck.

Well figure if we draw one tag and buy one LOT say 7k total split that be 3500 each.
We'd do camp ourself unless we put in outfitter pool and draw. Then tag price would only be 2k for both tags and say 2k each for a drop camp somewhere.
If we buy landowner tag I'm diy all the way if we draw gonna do a drop camp.
If we can get tags or drop camp in 8-10k range be good.
I don't wanna do a 6 day hunt for 7k when I can do whole month for that.
Time off work with my job is no problem but I do stay on the boat 100 days straight working 12hour days like now been on 55 days and 20 to go.
