Kuiu Teton Soft Shell Jacket or Chinook Jacket

Need some help. They seem a lot alike. One says water resistant other doesn't. I'm looking for an outer shell that offers some wind resistance and a little water repelling action. Not full blown rain gear. Its for Sept/Early Oct hunting in Colorado.

Any comments from those that have worn them of the differences in the material and functionality in the weather is greatly appreciated.

I don't have the Teton soft shell, but I love my chinook jacket and pants. They're great at cutting the wind and the pit and hip vents help a lot if you're on the move. I wear my chinook stuff from early to late season with layering.

How's the water repellent ability of that material in the Chinook?

It's good for a light rain for a few minute. That's about all I've had it in. More for drier weather or for layering under rain gear.

I own both jackets, the teton is in verde and the chinook is brown. I absolutely love the chinook as an all around light jacket. I feel it is better since it has the pit zips and chest pockets. The teton jacket is nice, just got done using it while chasing cow elk. But, I did order a guide jacket as I like that style better for hunting. The teton will still go on upland bird hunts with other layers come season.

As far as the weather, they both bead up water well but obviously that wears off after a while. Revitalizing the material with those outer shell detergents seem to work for me.

Have you considered the Guide jacket? I believe it will have a little more moisture stopping power, it is also advertised to protect better in the wind than the Teton. The Chinook has an awesome feel but it is more fleece-y if that makes sense. If I were you I would go with the Chinook or a Guide, better quality and more versatile.

I know quite a lot about fabrics, so this is what you need to understand about softshell:
All the difference is made by the membrane, if a soft shell fabric has membrane it will be waterproof AND windstopper. If the softshell doesn't have a membrane, the softshell wont be waterresistant neither windstopper. I have tested both of these fabrics in a lab. Without going into deep details, these two softshell have been developed by Torai and have a very specific goal >> Lightweight.
On the other side, there are some soft shell fabrics (none of them used by KUIU) that other companies such as LL-Bean, Onca or Arkila that will repeal the water and up to a certain point will cut the wind.
