Anyone own, use, or know someone who uses the Kifaru Gun Bearer pack sling? I first saw Randy Newberg wearing it. It looks like a good way to carry a rifle.

The website says fits Kifaru packs only but I'm wondering if they mean that? I don't have a Kifaru pack and don't plan on buying one anytime soon, but I'd like to try this sling.

Thanks

I have used it, once you are used to it you have a hard time switching back.

Is anyone aware of a "universal" long gun holster/sling that is of the same concept but can be used not specifically with these packs? I have looked a few time for one but obviously not looking in the right places.

Thanks in advance!!!

Kifaru sells a universal model for most other packs. I have one on my Exo 3500 and it works fine. You can get two straps one long one short so you can fit the rifle to your liking.

Thanks steveo. I clearly wasn't paying attention. On the Kifaru website the universal sling is right under the original. Just ordered it!

It is great. Makes it easy to get you gun up and in shooting position with your pack on. I will say that using mine last year in MT on a Kuiu ultrapack, the top wanted to slide down. There is not a loop on the Kuiu shoulder strap that the top of the gunbearer can be threaded through for it to be in the proper position for me. I need to play a little more with the bottom portion height to see if I can make particular combination of distances work, but even with needing to readjust the top part every few times I take the gun off (it stays put if the gun is just being carried in the bearer) it is still an amazing piece of equipment. I may try a zip tie or ties to keep it in place, or even sew a loop there just for it to attach to. So much better to have the gun at the ready all the time as opposed to strapped to the pack, and it really doesn't even seem like it's there for walking or glassing.

Although I loved mine, the stitching ripped and it did fail, dropping my rifle right on the rocks during a bighorn sheep hunt. Luckily it was on the pack out after being successful! (This was 8 years ago - I am not sure if the quality as changed)

I would probably try it again, but would reinforce the stitching prior to trusting it...
