Not the right forum but thought it is worth a shot. I will be in Florida for work next week and happen to have all day Friday with nothing to do. I plan to drive down to the keys and stay Thursday night since I've never been there. I found a cheap place to stay on Long Key. My plan is to sight see a bit and fish Friday. I am considering diy or maybe even a charter if I get a good recommendation from someone? Any tips or advice from anyone would be really appreciated.

Don't have any info to share, other than you will be in a fishing paradise. If it were me, I would contact the local charter association and see what's out there...

Hilltop, feel free to PM me, I commute to Boca Raton during the week for work and the keys are only three hours from here. We used one hell of a charter captain last summer maybe I can point you in the right spot. On another note, where will you be staying and driving from?

Sending a PM. I start on the north end of the state and finish in Miami. I am seeing all of my larger accounts in Florida during the trip so I stay in a different hotel every night. Appreciate the help!

I had an excellent trip with these guys a few years ago: http://www.therapy4.com/. They are based out of Miami. Great thing about Miami is that the gulf stream is only a few miles from shore so you are in great fishing waters in about 30 minutes. I think sailfish should be making their run about now. 3 of us fished in january of 2011 and each caught 90" plus sailfish. Just don't let them convince you to buy a mount, its a replica anyway and you can buy much cheaper from a place like kings. I'm jealous, that's the best fishing i've ever experienced.

Had a great trip. I got to bowfish one night and then got to fish in the keys one afternoon and evening. I ended up not hiring anyone in the keys- just went wade and pier fishing. I caught many different species and the fishing was basically non-stop. Here is a picture of my best fish with a bow;

He was 48" - no clue on his weight. I'll post a few pics of the fish later when I get them uploaded.
