I put in for kentucky s archery and rifle bull elk draw for the first time this year. I can't seem to be able to find out when the draw happens? Has anybody here been drawn before, if so how did you find out? Will they send a email or call?

It is usually Mid May. You will need to go to the KY fish and wildlife website and check the results yourself. Good luck. I'm hearing 1,000 tags this year. Spoke to a warden last week while turkey hunting here and he said the latest number of elk here in KY is around 12,000.

Thanks for the info.

Good to hear the elk heard is doing well in Kentucky, hopefully someday we will have a elk hunt in Wisconsin.

With non resident draw odds of about 1 in 750 for bull rifle and 1 in 500 for bull archery, is it worth putting in? I know some non residents draw but those odds are just a big time money maker for the fish and wildlife department.
I am trying to be smarter about draw strategies and point building in order to have a statistical chance with my applications in western states.
I kind of think its a waste of money if your odds are less than one half of one percent.
I kind of think its a waste of money to play powerball lottery too.

For $10 I'll take 1 in 500 all day long.

I've been putting in since it was available and have never been drawn, but can't draw if you don't put in! Kentucky elk area would be about a 3.5 hour drive for me. A lot closer than the western states we hunt! Plus my grandma lives down there so lodging would be free!

Last year KY posted up their draw results on May 7th. Coming up soon it sounds like. Tough odds but an interesting hunt if you can draw the tag.

If the odds were 1 in 2000 and the app fee was $25 would you still "pay to play"? What would the cut off be?
If money and statistics don't matter, kdfwr sells raffle tickets for a commissioner tag $15 and anyone can buy as many as they want.

I've gotten SO much help on this forum, and I really appreciate that. I'd absolutely be willing to help anyone that gets drawn for one of our Elk tags. I have been in our elk country a bunch and attended the first drawing for 10 tags, that was done in a public setting out of a basket basically.

My good friend drew an archery bull tag last year. Killed a giant of an elk. To me at least. I believe it was low 360s. I'll ask him if he minds me posting a picture of it. He ended up hiring a guide since he had ever hunted elk before. Very reasonable pricing for what they offered. And his processor aged his elk in a walk in cooler for a week. Best meat we've tasted in my family. So much so that my wife made me put one of my two selections into the cow draw!!

Sure thing Eberle

I'll even make a scouting trip if you want, for the "area" they assign you. If the timing is right, I wouldn't mind camping and when you bag one I could help with getting it out. Good luck!!

Fish and game says results will be posted no later than the 9th. Good luck to everyone. I got drawn the first year I put in since then not even a sniff. But it is a good time and the meat is awesome.
