was at Cabelas this morning picking up some jig tying stuff when I seen a rack of Kenetrek boots for $250! I didn't really bother looking because clearly they only had the odd sizes like 8 9 and 13 but one of tags was flipped over and it said 10 1/2!!! woohoo. they are the Hard scrabbles. figured id buy them and give them ago. wasn't going to spend $400 on boots and seen it as an opportunity to try them out. anyone have these? likes, dislikes?

Awesome find! I don't have the hard scrabbles but I do have the mountain extremes! I love them! They are a very stiff boot that take some good miles to break in! Lace them up for shed hunting this spring and you should be good to go come hunting season! Hope you like them!

thanks! I was going to ask about break in, I put them on and felt a high spot right under the middle of my foot, not comfy. I have heard in past that they take a bit to break in and form to feet. I'm excited to break these babies in, as u said, shed hunting!

Ivorytip,

I know that lump you are talking about! I tried on their Mountain Extremes at the Kenetrek booth during the Dallas safari club show last month. The fit was great, but I felt like there was a golf ball in there! My buddy on the other hand loved them. The rep changed out the standard insole for a lower arch support version and then they felt perfect for me.

Now, he instructed that I order the boots with the standard insole and wear them for 2-3 days to see if my feet adjust (I can't imagine they will, but I'll give it a try). The reason being that they have a lot of arch support by design. When we do a lot of walking with heavy loads, we can loses our arches (flatten our feet) if we don't have the proper arch support. So, these are designed to give us the support we need to prevent that issue. But, if after a few days they still felt uncomfortable, then he said to call them up and they would exchange the insoles for me to get what I needed, but he was really insistent that I give it a few days. Anyway, I just pulled the trigger on them a few days ago, and they should arrive on Friday. Congrats and good luck.

Ivory, I changed out my insoles on my mountain extremes to superfeet I think the orange box. To break them in just wear them as much as you can. Get them wet, wear them shed hunting, turkey hunting. Mine stared felling really good after about 30+ miles. Great find by the way!i also have a sock combo I won't mess with, a silk sock liner and REI's expedition sock.

Love my hard scribbles and they get better with wear. Changed out insoles to super feet.

They do have a high arch. Call Kenetrek and tell them about the high spot. They will send you a different foot bed which is flatter. They didn't charge me anything not even shipping.

I took the footbed out and rolled it, bent it, smashed it, squeezed it, until it fit my arch correctly. Took some work!

I have the mountain extremes. After 2 weeks I called Cabelas to verify their return policy because I really wasn't sure these were keepers. After 4 weeks I thought these aren't too bad. After 6-8 weeks I started to really like them. After 3-4 months I knew these were my go to backcountry hunting boots. I didn't hike with them until I felt they were 100% broke in on flat ground.

Only use the Kenetrek wax. Don't use any other brand. Doing so will void your warranty (per Kenetrek).

Loveland, CO. was AZ.
As mentioned, nice find Ivorytip. I have the Hard Scrabbles for a little over a year now. Best boot I've ever had, worth it to me even at regular pricing, even better at what you paid. Wear them as often as you can because they do take time to break.

I think you'll be happy with them, once you get the right foot bed for you. I've used mine from AK Mt. goat to AZ Coues and I think they would be pretty tough to beat. (Extremes not Hard Scrabbles, but those are next:))

I've been wearing the Mountain Extremes for a couple years when I don't need an insulated boot. I love them, the best I've tried. I have Cabelas Alaskan Hunter (Meindl) insulated boots and will go with Kennetreks instead when they need replaced. The Cabelas are great boots too, but the Kennetreks fit me better. I just had mine on for a coyote contest last Saturday, put them on at 6am before the hunt and took them off at 12:30 am after the supper and some beers. My feet were still happy to be wearing them.
