Is There Anyone One On This Forum That Makes A Living On Hunting &Fishing

I dabble in the retail world. I sell vortex optics and own a website called solooutdoor.com neither of which would feed a family. Im terrible at charging enough to be considered profitable. The business pays for itself and I really enjoy talking with customers new and old about items they have purchased that helped them achieve their goals on hunts. I have alot of fun bs'n when people come over to buy optics and talking hunting with people around the globe. As much as I wish it were profitable enough to leave the day job and spend more time outdoors, I think I am at a pretty happy medium. I enjoy hard manual labor during the days, Make some side cash with the business to afford scouting trips and occasional new gear. And still have time to do what Im truly passionate about which is being a father and a husband. Ive played both sides of the spectrum chasing the "ultimate hunting job" but really I have found that the time in the woods I have to work hard for to be there, makes it much more enjoyable while im there.

Yeah... Your prices are little low... Go ahead and keep it that way though, I'm gonna need one of those little 50mm Vortex spotters sooner or later!A rich woman.

A hat, shirt, bino harness and a lens cleaning kit. Not bad, considering they really didn't need to do it.

Tried it once and really didn't work out.
Years ago (in another life!) when I lived in California I had a 30' sport fishing boat. Licensed it commercially and got my captains lic. Used to take clients fishing and then commercial fished for rock cod. Barely broke even and worked my butt off. Bad part was I had a family and had no medical insurance. Could'nt do it now...too many fishing restrictions commercially.

I also chased another dream pre wife and kid. I had 3500 to burn. I hit the practice pen and roped my ass off everyday after work. Turned steer after steer team roping. until I literally couldn't miss. A couple weeks went by and I found a circuit that was 80% payback. I hit the road and didnt read the fine print. Its 80% payback based on 100 teams. (100 teams never showed up) the 10k for first place wasn't happenin. After six weeks of pounding pavement and sitting 1,2,&3rd in the series I was outta of expendable cash. Back to work I went. Scored a bunch of bob berg buckles but still hanging pipe.

Since last December, I've been proofreading and editing the articles in the Eastmans' journals - I was reading the magazines anyway. Now I have a hand in how well they read. I love it. Good people, too.
That sounds like fun! Writing has always been a past time of mine. Never ventured into it professionally because its my last straw. As in last thing I have thats not work.

I used to guide fisherman for Walleye when I was 16 for a guy that knew I could catch Walleye. I got $100 a day and thought that was a pretty good deal being as young as I was, but when it became a job it just wasn't fun anymore. Did it for the summer and that was it.
