My folks live in New Smyrna Beach and have evacuated to the west side of the state. We also have friends that live in Key Largo that own a restaurant and they have also headed north.

They are all pretty much agree that they will loose everything. My folks are retired and do not have homeowners ins on there home, (aggravates the S out of me) but nothing can be done now. Fingers crossed that they all make it on the positive side of this once it's over.

I can't imagine the panic in Florida for those who are staying behind. The main roads here are covered with traffic and 90% are Florida tags. There isn't a hotel available for 200 miles. Gas stations are starting to give out of gas even this far north.

At least they are taking it seriously and getting out now. I just hope it doesn't track west, miss Florida and hit here to where they are taking refuge.

Well...I can say firsthand, I drove back to Saint Petersburg from ft lauderdale yesterday early morning and the chaos there was indescribable. Gas and water nowhere to be found starting Tuesday! Thought I was seeking refuge by going home and come to find out, the damn thing is coming right for us! It's absolutely ridiculous here and most people are not willing to leave due to traffic alone. I've been here for 38 years and never seen anything like this, Elena, Charlie, etc...I'm hunkering down and praying for the best. Plywood is to be found nowhere so I unscrewed my decking and cut it up to cover my windows and doors. My generator started and I have beer and bourbon and mountain house meals! I'm supposed to leave for my elk hunt Saturday so hopefully it won't be too bad. For the couple of Florida folks on here, I hope for the best for all of us!
